Just as Cher stands up to search her bedroom for the white collarless top, a snippet from David Bowie’s hit 1980 song Fashion begins to play.
‘Fashion, turn to the left – Fashion, turned to the right – Ooooh fashion – We are the goon squad and we’re coming to town,’ Bowie sings in the chorus.
Released July, 19, 1995, the Amy Heckerling-directed Clueless received generally good reviews from critics en route to becoming a sleeper hit, grossing more than $56 million during its theatrical run.

But over the years the movie has garnered a cult following, all while being celebrated as one of the best teen movies of all time, due in part to the script’s iconic slang that still lives on in American culture.
The story, loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, follows 15-year-old Cher Horowitz, a sweet but spoiled girl living in Beverly Hills, as she navigates family life, school, popularity and the idea of love.
Along with Silverstone and Hedaya, the star-studded cast also featured the late Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Jeremy Sisto, Stacey Dash, Breckin Meyer, Wallace Shawn, Justin Walker, Elisa Donovan, Twink Caplan and Paul Rudd.
In the wake of its success, the film was followed by a spin-off television sitcom and a series of books.
