She continued: ‘For the next months, I will take a break from traveling the globe as a tennis player but then again, I believe it’s for the best possible reason! I will miss all of you.

‘New York has often been a turning point in my career and it feels like this year will be no different in some way!

‘Being a professional athlete means everything to me but I’m grateful for the new path I’m heading to. To be honest, I’m nervous and excited at the same time. Thanks for your continued support – it means everything to me.’

Angelique has reportedly been daring her entrepreneur beau Franco for several years, though it’s believed they made their relationship official in January last year.

The German-born athlete has an impressive career so far, having at one point been ranked number one for 34 weeks.

She has also won three major Grand Slam titles in her tennis career – the 2016 Australian Open , the 2016 US Open and the 2018 Wimbledon Championship, the latter in which she beat Serena Williams in straight sets.

The beauty, who made her tennis debut in 2003, is also an Olympic silver medalist.
