Beyoncé wears a bodysuit made out of plastic document folders from a Brisbane Officeworks for her Renaissance album photo shoot

A young Australian designer has scored a major career win after the world’s biggest pop star Beyoncé wore her design in a photo shoot for her new album Renaissance.

Bethany Cordwell, who works as a costumier for Queensland Ballet, crafted the black and white bodysuit using plastic document folders she bought while working at office supplies retailer Officeworks.

Ms Cordwell spent one month painstakingly sewing 12,000 individually hand-cut plastic shards to a bespoke bodysuit to form a figure-hugging silhouette.

‘I couldn’t believe it. It still doesn’t feel real. [Beyoncé] looks incredible in my bodysuit and earrings,’ Ms Cordwell told he Courier Mail on Monday.

Ms Cordwell was contacted by Beyoncé’s team earlier this year, after they stumbled across her unique bodysuit and matching earrings on Instagram.

‘I was in absolute shock… I quickly replied and we started discussing further details instantly,’ she said.

‘The lead time was tight. I wasn’t able to make a custom bodysuit specific to Beyoncé’s measurements due to time constraints. Thankfully they accepted my existing bodysuit which was sent express to LA.’

Ms Cordwell also discussed her career boost with Stav, Abby & Matt on Tuesday, telling them Beyoncé’s management had agreed to purchase the bodysuit.

When asked how much the garment is worth, the designer said: ‘The materials didn’t cost very much, but the work and the time that went into it would have absolutely equated to quite a price.’
