Channel Seven ‘will bring back My Kitchen Rules’ after comeback season as it beats MasterChef in the ‘Total TV’ ratings

A TV industry expert has predicted that it is likely Channel Seven will re-new hit cooking show, My Kitchen Rules.

This despite the fan favourite being constantly beaten this season in the overnight metro ratings.

But TV critic Colin Vickery has made the prediction based on ‘Total TV numbers’, reports TV Tonight.

These are ratings that take into account fans watching the cooking competition in regional areas throughout Australia, in addition to catch-up and BVOD viewers.

Using this metric, My Kitchen Rules routinely brings in over 900,000 viewers per episode.

The report says recent episodes of MKR have reached 964,000, 967,000, and 868,000 in ‘Total TV’ ratings.

The publication says these numbers compare favourably to Channel 10’s MasterChef Australia.

The cooking show rival to MKR averaged 840,000 Total TV viewers this season, with MasterChef’s finale part 2 reaching 1.1 million fans.

‘When the total TV numbers are factored in, the back-to-basics reboot of My Kitchen Rules has to be considered a success,’ Vickery said.

‘I am sure that Channel Seven will announce a 2023 season.’

Vickery said the show’s ratings had stayed strong even after UK celebrity cook Nigella Lawson left the season halfway through.

He said new guest judges, including Matt Preston and Colin Fassnidge, have continued to lure fans.

Vickery added that the Total TV  numbers clearly indicated there is plenty of room in the market place for both MRK and MasterChef.

The report comes after MKR pulled in 484,000 metro viewers on Monday evening.
