Coronation Street fans were left baffled after Carla Barlow’s Underworld colleagues failed to notice her change in demeanour when serial killer Stephen Reid spiked her drink which lead to her plowing Paul Foreman off his motorbike during Friday’s episode.

The businesswoman (Alison King) was seen climbing behind the wheel of a van after collecting it from the workshop close to her underwear factory after villainous Stephen (Todd Boyce) spiked her tea with an unknown substance.

Killer Stephen has embarked on a campaign of terror against Carla in a bid to take control of her underwear factory.

He could be seen using a pipette to drop a clear liquid into her drink before making her question her sanity by telling her she’d cancelled meetings when she hadn’t.

When Carla arrived at the workshop to collect her vehicle, she thought a pile of tyres on the floor were moving.

While the mechanic attempted to stop her from getting behind the wheel, most of her colleagues, friends and family, other than Stephen, failed to notice she was out of sorts.

Despite thinking the tyres were wobbling from side to side, Carla was still allowed to get behind the wheel of the van which she drove down the cobbles of Coronation Street before smashing into Paul who was sat on his bike.

Paul was seen falling to the floor before he was knocked unconscious and rushed off to hospital.

Taking to Twitter to question how events had unfolded in Weatherfield, one viewer wrote: ‘Carla drives a van into a bike and injures someone and no one thought to get her checked out at the hospital. I’m hoping Carla is onto Steven and is setting a trap.’

Someone else posted: ‘Plus surely if Carla was tripping her eyeballs would be like golf balls and someone would notice. Nah not on #Corrie.

‘How has no-one caught onto the fact that Carla was perfectly fine this morning until she went to work? #CoronationStreet,’ asked another viewer.

While someone else shared: ‘Carla is a smart, astute, independent businesswoman. Am I meant to believe she hasn’t caught on that she could’ve been spiked/drugged? #corrie.’

Another viewer wrote: ‘So NOBODY wanted any blood tests, hospital, police, insurance? No? Even Carla not thinking to get herself checked out? These storlylines are just pathetic now!’

While someone else tweeted: ‘#Corrie In the real world Carla would know she was tripping on acid. Then Stephen would get caught.’

One other person posted: ‘How’s Carla not in police custody after that crash and being given tests which would show narcotics in her system?’

Meanwhile, tensions rose this week as Stephen resorted to drastic new measures to secure his future on the Street and secretly began drugging his boss Carla.

The serial killer desperately tryied to seal his design deal with fashion industry big player Rufus and was pleased when Carla instructed him to set it up and in return he’d receive 15% commission and a contract.

Meanwhile, Carla told Sarah (Tina O’Brien) that she could continue working on her designs in return for an apology.

Meeting up with Rufus at his hotel, the businessman made it clear he wasn’t interested in the deal, with Stephen begging him to reconsider.

Rufus went on to hand Stephen a vial of LSD before retreating into the bathroom to snort a line of coke.

However, disaster struck when Rufus suddenly collapsed clutching his chest, and as an ambulance wheeled him out, Carla then called Stephen asking if the deal was done.

After reassuring Carla the deal was in the bag, Stephen then began practicing forging Rufus’ signature – but he was abruptly interrupted when a ex worker barged in demanding her money – giving Stephen an idea.

Later at the factory, Stephen was incensed when Carla promoted his niece Sarah to Head of Design, while he bagged the role of Office Manager.

Seeking revenge on his boss, he then slipped into her office and poured LSD from Rufus’ briefcase into her tea.

‘Consider this a peace gesture. Here’s to starting over’ said Stephen as he handed her the drugged drink.

‘Ta very much’ she said as she sipped it, completely unaware of its contents.

As Carla headed out to the factory floor, the drug began to take hold as she was left woozy and discombobulated.

The evil character later struck again in The Rovers as he slipped more LSD into her red wine.

When her partner Peter (Chris Gascoyne) then arrived at the pub, he realised something was wrong, with the taxi driver worried Carla’s psychosis was returning as she began to act paranoid.

After Carla was escorted out of the pub by Peter, Stephen stepped up his campaign against her as he snuck into her office to delete a meeting with Dick Haversham from her diary, while also muddling up her paperwork.
