Demi Lovato reveals being inspired by American Idol champion Kelly Clarkson ahead of album release

Demi Lovato revealed that she was so inspired by Kelly Clarkson that her email was called ‘Little Kelly’ on Tuesday episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

‘I remember watching her on American Idol and just becoming so inspired by her that my email address when I was young was LittleKelly@Yahoo.com,’ said Demi, 29, who wore a sheer black top, black jacket and black thigh high boots and a choker necklace.

Demi said when she learned that Kelly, 40, had recently covered her song Anyone that it was a powerful moment.

‘For her to cover my song years later was just a full circle moment,’ the singer said. ‘ I also used to cover her songs when I was younger as well.’

Jimmy, 47, then played a video of 14-year-old Demi singing Kelly’s song The Trouble With Love Is. 

Demi shared that not only does her new album HOLY FVCK come out on Friday, but that her 30th birthday was coming up on Saturday. Jimmy presented her with a birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday.

‘I’m excited about it,’ Demi said.

Jimmy asked her about gearing up for the upcoming tour by playing gigs over the weekend.

‘This was my first show in four years,’ Demi said. ‘I hadn’t performed a full show in four years. I’m about to go on tour, the Holy F*** Tour.’

Demi admitted she was nervous.

‘I was like ”can I still do this”,’ Demi said.

Demi said she felt good after she finished the shows.

Jimmy asked her what people could expect from her new tour.

‘My music is more rock now,’ Demi said. ‘Even my older songs kind of have a rock flair to them. They are not pop anymore.’

As part of her new show, Demi included a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls.

‘That song Iris is one of my favorite songs ever,’ Demi said.

Jimmy played a clip of her singing it.

Later in the show, Demi performed her song Substance from her new album.
