Ex On The Beach star Helen Briggs’ daughter Ocean had a birthmark on her chest removed in hospital after the mark grew bigger and darker.

Helen, 26, who appeared on the 2016 series of the show alongside partner Chet Johnson, urged parents to be vigilant and seek medical advice if they had any doubts concerning their children’s health.

The star detailed how Ocean had been born with a birthmark, which at the beginning of the year, started to change shape, with a black dot appearing on the mark.

She wrote: ‘Hey guys, I just wanted to pop on here & explain a little what Ocean had done at @greatormondst in London.

‘Ocean was born with a birthmark on her chest which never bothered her or us but over the past 6 months a black dot appeared which grew bigger & darker along with her birthmark (it’s really changed shape since she was born).

‘I took her to the doctors about it who we’re a little unsure what it was, so they advised us to get it removed & have a biopsy on it so here we are today in London visiting for 2 days.

‘She was so brave & is recovering so well. From going to the doctors to having it removed all happened within 1 month.

WHAT ARE BIRTHMARKS?

A birthmark is a blemish on the skin that is present at birth or develops in the first few weeks of life.

The type of birthmark depends on the main cells involved.

Most include melanin collected in one area to create a different colour to the rest of the body.

Vascular birthmarks consist of vessels that have not formed properly and can look reddish or blue.

Most birthmarks are caused by a change in a gene during early pregnancy when skin and blood vessels are forming.

The majority of birthmarks do not require treatment.

Those on the eyes, nose or mouth may need attention if they grow.

Laser treatment can reduce the colour of some red birthmarks.

Some blemishes fade with age, however, more prominent ones may affect people’s self esteem and benefit from psychological therapy.

I just wanted to thank all the nurses and doctors at Great Ormond Street, they were absolutely wonderful, so kind & helpful I trusted them with my daughter & they didn’t disappoint so thank you we are still waiting on the results and will update you all when we know more.’

Helen shared an emotional video showing Ocean arriving at Great Ormond Street and going into her operation.

The clip also showed Ocean’s birthmark and the youngster recovering afterwards.

She previously won hearts on the fourth series of Ex On The Beach after reuniting with ex Chet, who romantically described her as ‘the one who got away’.

They welcomed their first child in November 2019 after Helen endured a 22-hour labour.
