John Farnham’s heartwarming family act as he recovers from extreme mouth cancer surgery in which part of his jaw was removed

John Farnham is in good health six months after he had major mouth cancer surgery, with the singer entertaining his family over Christmas with a game of music trivia.

The You’re The Voice hitmaker, 73, hosted the fun event over the holidays and was reportedly in good spirits.

‘He was MC with the family all gathered around and we laughed as we were all tested on our musical knowledge,’ Watercooler Talent managing partner David Wilson told The Daily Telegraph

Wilson added Farnham was slowly but surely getting better: ‘It is a process, it is slow and steady as she goes. He is going well.’

He said Farnham entertained a full house including his wife Jillian, their sons Robert and James, their partners, and other family and friends.

John’s sons spoke to A Current Affair in October and said they were hopeful the worst of his health scare was behind them.

‘He’s almost back to his normal self, just dropping jokes all the time. He’s a performer at heart and he’s always trying to make people laugh,’ Robert said.

Last year was particularly difficult for Farnham with his long-time manager Glenn Wheatley dying in February and close friend Olivia Newton-John dying in August.

John required an operation by 26 surgeons over a marathon 12-hour operation to remove a cancerous growth from his mouth and part of his jaw in August.

It was reporter Farnham is ‘unlikely’ to ever perform on stage again – but an update from wife Jill and sons Rob and James confirmed the singer is on the road to recovery after being moved into a general room.

‘That in itself is terrific progress,’ they said in a statement.

‘John has been transferred into a rehabilitation facility. Each of these steps means things are moving in the right direction and for that we are enormously thankful.’

They also thanked his ‘many thousands’ of fans who created a website to support Farnham called weloveyoujohn.com.au.
