The Life In The Fab Lane star discussed her daughter’s passion for modeling, stating, ‘I love it that she’s trying to follow in my footsteps. But also I think it’s a pain because if I had had some of what they have, maybe I wouldn’t have been a model.’

‘Whereas she says, ‘Mom, you should be proud,’ Kimora said, adding that she understands modeling is a dream for individuals. ‘It’s like aspirational, this is what people want to do also.’

‘And I just feel like sometimes you don’t want your kids to face hardships. I think that’s what any mom would say, right?’

Despite her daughter’s balance of working in the industry and attending an Ivy League university, she expressed that she is very supportive of Aoki and believes in her.

‘We wish Aoki the best and she knows that. So whether it’s in front of the camera or behind the scenes, it doesn’t take away anymore,’ the star explained to People.

‘And I think she’s probably seen that with her mom. It doesn’t make you any more or less of a business person or any more or less of a student or a student of the world or any more or less than a model.’

Aoki has delved into the modeling industry with a few projects already secured on her resume.

The media influencer has a dedicated following on Instagram and boasts around 716K followers. The hard-working student made her runway debut last year in 2021 and walked for Pyer Moss Paris Couture.

She has also modeled for her mother’s iconic brand, Baby Phat, which was originally launched as Phat Fashions in 1999.

Aoki defended herself on TikTok when a social media user commented on her choice to model when she was attending Harvard.

‘Well, one, models aren’t uneducated and not articulate,’ she started out in her response.

‘But two, I think what you’re really getting at is, ‘Why am I going into a field that doesn’t necessarily require a degree or require a whole lot of book smarts when I have a lot of education?’

Aoki then explained why she chose to pursue modeling on the side. ‘Well, one, because I love it, and I think we should normalize liking something. You don’t have to do what you’re immediately good at.’

Towards the end of the video, the hard-working star expanded on following one’s dreams and passions.

‘I would like to change the idea that you can’t be smart and pretty, or you can’t be smart and enjoy your looks or enjoy a creative, beauty, and fashion-based career. You can be two kinds of people in one person.’

‘Nothing is a waste of your talent…if you are enjoying it, and you’re happy, and you’re living your life. Then whatever path took you there was the right one, and nothing was wasted,’ she concluded.
