Lauren Graham shared some rare insight on her split from longtime partner Peter Krause.

The Gilmore Girls star, 55, revealed that she and the Six Feet Under actor, 57, didn’t have the same values or vision for the future, which ultimately led to their breakup in 2021, after nearly 12 years together.

‘We had such a good time together that I didn’t maybe ask some fundamental questions about “What are your values and what do you envision?” and those more grown-up things. And then they just caught up with us,’ she told People

Graham – who began dating Krause after the two costarred as siblings on the show Parenthood – reflected on the positives and negatives of knowing each other for so long.

‘I think part of all the positives of having known each other for a really long time were there. And one of the negatives of that is we almost came into a relationship as people in their 40s without asking any of the questions people in their 40s should be asking,’ she said.

Following the breakup Graham returned to Los Angeles to work on her new book in a rented beach house, but says she still has moments of sadness, especially in regards to Krause’s 20-year-old son Roman, whom she helped raise.

‘Any pain still really has its moments. I was a contributor in the life of his child, and so we’re connected. And yes, I’m in a better place, but it’s still just a shame. It’s just sad to me.’

The actress then looked back at how she dealt with the breakup amid the COVID pandemic, and how working on her book, Have I Told You This Already? Stories I Don’t Want to Forget to Remember, helped her stay busy.

‘I knew I was resilient because I just always have been. You take your knocks and don’t complain. That’s how I was always raised,’ she shared.

‘Somewhere in that is a year like this where I just was not going to let [the breakup] flatten me. I was like, “Okay, well, look at all the good stuff I have, and look at all the good times,” and “I’m going to write this book.” Thank goodness I have these outlets and these stories to tell.’

Despite the breakup, the star is open to the possibility of love, but will not be using dating apps to meet her potential parter.

‘You don’t get the sense really of what your actual chemistry is. You’re just getting what game they’re playing or what method they use. It’s just not the full picture.’

As for what she’s looking for in her dream man, the Golden Globe nominee stressed that ‘kindness and a sense of humor’ are must-haves, before adding, ‘At this point, I’m all about having a good time.’
