Lisa Snowdon reveals she had a 'fling' 20 years ago with her current fiancé George Smart

Lisa Snowdon has revealed she had a ‘little fling’ 20 years ago with her current fiancé George Smart.

The couple rekindled their relationship in 2015, with George cementing his love for Lisa in 2016 by getting down on one knee. 

Even though they have now been engaged for six years, the TV presenter, 50, admitted she doesn’t know if she’s the ‘marrying type’ as she opened up about their happy relationship on Thursday’s Loose Women.

Lisa gushed over the entrepreneur and told panellists Charlene White, Denise Welch, Carol McGiffin and Katie Piper how ‘lucky’ she is to have George in her life.  

Lisa explained George has been her rock during her perimenopause journey: ‘I’m so lucky, I do realise how lucky I am to have him in my life, it took me a long time to actually find someone who was as supportive as him.

‘Bless him, it was right at the beginning of my menopause journey we got back together.’

When the Loose Woman panel asked when their previous relationship was, Lisa replied: ‘Years and years ago, like 20 years ago we had a little fling.

‘We have been engaged for ages, we are really happy. I don’t know if I’m the marrying type.’

She added: ‘We had a couple of months together and it was great and then I turned into a monster.

‘I’d be horrible to him, I’d want to fight with him. It breaks my heart that women suffer in silence.

Lisa, who often speaks out about taboo topics, admitted that she feels much better now she is on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), saying: ‘I think women have been ashamed to say they’re going into the menopause.’

Lisa and George first crossed paths two decades ago, when Lisa’s career was planted at MTV – although their eight year age gap drove them apart.

After getting back together via a close friend of Lisa’s, the ‘familiarity’ was instantaneous. 

The couple, who have been engaged for almost seven years, aren’t planning on getting married anytime soon: ‘We’re really happy but I’m not sure whether we’re actually going to get married… I’m not sure I want a big hoo-ha!’

Speaking about the proposal at the time, she told The Sun: ‘George proposed on the Saturday before Christmas and it was such a lovely surprise – I had absolutely no idea he was going to do it!’

‘He did it at home – it was just us, it was really low-key and completely unexpected. He chose the most beautiful diamond ring, which I love, and amazingly it fits me perfectly! It was such a great way to start the New Year.’

Lisa has enjoyed a number of high profile relationships over the years – most notably her five-year, on-off romance with George Clooney.
