Luke and Nicole’s duet is an adaptation for a song in which Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World won the 2015 Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

The pair met during the filming of Hulu mini-series Nine Perfect Strangers in Australia, and spent five months working together and bonding off-set.

Luke explained: ‘When we wrapped the show, we had a dinner one night in Keith and Nicole’s house in Sydney.

‘After dinner, Nicole was like: ”Right, you’re singing, Keith’s gonna play the piano. He’ll play anything, just tell him the song.” So everybody came around the grand piano in their living room and I sang Adele’s Make You Feel My Love.

‘I knew that Nicole loved to sing, so she joined in and we had a glorious sing along. It was an evening I will never forget.’

Luke went onto reveal that when he was preparing to record his cover of Say Something, he realised Nicole would be the perfect singing partner, and when he asked her, she said yes straight away.

He continued: ‘I already had that song in my head because I knew that it would fit both our voices very well. I knew they would blend perfectly, so I sent them the track and Nicole immediately loved it.

‘She went into the recording studio with Keith in Nashville and recorded her part of the song. I have a little video of her recording in the booth. I think she enjoyed it very much.

‘She said she was grateful I had asked her. Grateful? You have no idea how grateful I am!’ She is a lovely human being full of graciousness, humility and warmth. She was so generous with her time. To do something like this was really special.’

A Song For You draws its title from the Donny Hathaway song that’s one of Evans’ lifelong favourites and with which he opens the 14-song selection on his album.

Luke also had a very successful career on stage, performing in Rent and Miss Saigon, and most recently starred in the 2022 film Pinocchio.

However – his first love has always been music. ‘I just feel really lucky as a singer, my first love, to do it again,’ he said.

‘And to sing these magical songs on an album which I’ll have for the rest of my life. I want everyone else to share that joy, too.’
