Margot Robbie received a sweet visit from her husband Tom Ackerley while filming scenes for her new Barbie film, in which she stars as the popular doll, on her 32nd birthday.
Despite having to work on her 32nd birthday, the Australian actress’ spouse ensured they spent some quality time together as he stopped by the set of her latest project alongside Ryan Gosling, who was in character as Robbie’s onscreen love interest, Ken.
While taking a break from filming, the two-time Academy Award nominee couldn’t stop smiling as she spoke with the British producer, who she wed in 2016 during a private ceremony in Coorabell.

Marvel’s Simu Liu and new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa are also said be playing other Kens.

Side by side: Ryan and Margot have been seen filming for the Barbie movie the past few weeks

Matching: The duo have both been wearing the same two outfits (above) and neon ensembles and roller blades

Confused: The star made a perplexed expression and placed both hands on her hips

Hands in the air: Robbie looked like she was processing something while standing in front of a bus stop

According to Vulture, the film is ‘a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough’
Also linked to the film are Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, actress Saoirse Ronan and pop sensation Dua Lipa – but these have not yet been confirmed.
The Derry Girls actress teased that Sex Education’s Ncuti had already been announced for the mystery project, but she had not yet.
And Ncuti appeared to hint that their joint project is the upcoming Barbie film as he shared a snap of the pair to Instagram alongside the caption, ‘a pair of dolls’.

The plot? Another synopsis on IMDB reads: ‘A doll living in “Barbieland” is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. A live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys’

A light-hearted change: Ryan is known for his serious acting work in acclaimed films such as Drive, Blade Runner 2049, Blue Valentine, and Half Nelson

Role of a lifetime: Meanwhile, Margot has long been attached to play Barbie on the big screen and promised that the movie will be very different to what people are expecting

She previously said: ‘Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is’, but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted’

Ahead of filming, she gushed to the Hollywood Reporter that she plans to bring ‘something totally different’ to the role.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but insiders have suggested that there is a meta aspect to the story.
Will Ferrell is said to be playing the CEO of a toy company that may or may not be Mattel.
The first official image of Ryan showed the actor dressed as the ‘Earring Magic Ken’ version of the doll introduced by Mattel in 1993, as a companion to its ‘Earring Magic Barbie’ figure.
This particular version of the Ken doll featured an updated look with the character sporting blonde highlights, instead of his traditional brown hair.

I’m a Barbie girl! Last month, Margot was seen dressed in character while filming for the first time apart from a promotional image

Something different: Opting for something ‘a little left center,’ when it comes to her portrayal of the Mattel doll, the project will be produced by her LuckyChap Entertainment Company whose motto is, ‘If it’s not a f**k, yes, it’s a no’

Behind-the-scenes drama: However, later Schumer admitted that it was less about scheduling and more about creative differences. ‘They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it,’ she told The Hollywood Reporter

However, it appears as though Ryan was dressed as the ‘Earring Magic Ken’ version of the doll introduced by Mattel in 1993, as a companion to its ‘Earring Magic Barbie’ figure – in his first publicity still released last week

Chucking away: The stars already appear to have a good to have a good rapport with one another
The doll also featured a lavender mesh shirt, a purple leather jacket and jewelry including an earring and a necklace.
Upon release, it became the highest-selling Ken doll in history and caused a stir when some people speculated that designers had taken inspiration from the gay clubbing scene in early nineties New York and Los Angeles.
Ryan is known for his serious acting work in acclaimed films such as Drive, Blade Runner 2049, Blue Valentine, and Half Nelson.

Goofing around: The onscreen couple were seen walking with their arms around each other at one point

Robbie told Harper’s Bazaar that she knows her character ‘comes with a lot of baggage’ for glamourizing unrealistic beauty standards

Goofing around: Both Robbie and Gosling exchanged a laugh

Casual: Between scenes, Robbie wore a pair of tan UGG slippers and toted a party hat

Ready to roll: The duo were back to filming in roller skates and knee pads
Sporting a cheesy grin and white underwear branded with his character’s name, the role of Ken certainly appears to be somewhat of a left turn for the thespian.
Meanwhile, Margot has long been attached to play Barbie on the big screen and promised that the movie will be very different to what people are expecting.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star is hoping to provoke ‘thoughtful conversation’ with the film.
In celebration of the Mattel doll’s 60th anniversary, Barbie will be released in cinemas on July 21, 2023.
