
I’m a Celebrity star Maria Thattil reveals her ‘scary’ experience with sleep paralysis: ‘It was like someone was in bed with their arms around me’
Maria Thattil has opened up about her experience with sleep paralysis.
Sleep paralysis is the temporary inability to move or speak that typically happens just as you are falling asleep or waking up.
It can cause individuals to feel a sense of suffocation, pressure on their body or even hallucinations.

The former Miss Universe Australia shared her experience on Instagram on Tuesday.
‘So I’ve been having sleep paralysis lately,’ Maria, 29, began. ‘I wish this was not a thing that I was saying because I hate it.’
While she admitted a bout of sleep paralysis she had last week had been ‘scary’, her most recent episode was less alarming because she was able to control it.

‘Last night, it wasn’t scary. I was just in bed, woke up, and it felt like someone had gotten into bed with me and put their arms around me,’ she explained.
Maria said it was initially ‘terrifying’ not being able to move her body, but she was able to ‘will it’ to go away.
The reality TV star then asked her fans for advice on how to prevent sleep paralysis from recurring.

‘If any of you suggest Ghostbusters, [you’re] immediately blocked,’ she added.
Maria didn’t appear to be too traumatised by the whole ordeal because she spent the rest of her day working on an upcoming project for bridal designer Con Ilio.
The brunette rose to fame winning Miss Universe Australia in 2020, and was later a contestant on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
