Meghan Trainor talks casting Kris Jenner in her music video

Meghan Trainor has detailed how she came to cast Kris Jenner in her latest music video for her song Mother.

The 29-year-old spoke about enlisting the help of one of the most famous mums in an appearance on Tuesday’s Lorraine.

She told host Lorraine Kelly she ‘sobbed’ when she found out that Kris, 67, had agreed to star in the video.

Meghan said: ‘Look how gorgeous she is, she’s the mother of all mothers!’

She recalled: ‘I jokingly one day was like “what if I got the mother of all mothers, like the queen of mothers to be in this music video, singing the lyrics?”.

‘And I was like, “there’s no way she’s going to say yes but we should ask”, and we asked and I found out the day before my birthday that she said ‘yes’ and I sobbed and cried all day long because I couldn’t believe it was happening!’

The Kardashians star spoofed Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend routine in a short, blonde wig and white gown with a scoop neck and short, puffy sleeves.

Diamonds adorned her neck, ears and fingers as she lip synced the lyric ‘I am your mother, you listen to me, stop all the mansplaining, no one’s listening.’

Dancers pranced around her as she mugged for the camera in her glamorous look.

At one point, the video gives an aerial view of the Kris,  she’s spun around by dancers fanning her with white feathers. 

Later in the video, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum ditched the wig and wore a vintage-looking black, body hugging, long-sleeved gown with a collar of diamonds.

Kris and Meghan are surrounded by backup dancers and men in suits holding flowers.

The momager gets the last shot of the video as she sips tea from a diamond-encrusted mug and winks cheekily.

The Kardashians star looked like she was having the time of her life in the video. 

Elsewhere in the chat, Meghan spoke about the inspiration for her debut book Dear Future Mama.

The pregnant star explained: ‘There are so many people giving birth and when I was pregnant, I was still so lost and confused. It was during Covid, so I couldn’t go to classes and my best friend was YouTube at the time.

‘And I’m like the first out of my friends to get married and have babies so I felt very alone, I wrote down everything that I was like “nobody warned me about this!”‘

‘I hope it just makes people feel less alone in their pregnancies.’

‘I was googling “how to go through labour” and then to find out right towards the end it was going to be a C-section.

‘Then when he came out he had respiratory issues and he was in the NICU for a bit, it was rattling and I didn’t realise how much it affected me until months after with my therapist.

‘And so I wanted to put that in the book too, like mental health is a big part of this and it’s best to ask for help and speak up about what you’re feeling.

‘I’ll be super pregnant promoting this book so it all worked out and the song “Mother’- [it’s like] I planned it out!”‘

Meghan, who is pregnant with her second child with husband Daryl Sabara, showed off her sonogram pictures in one shot from the video while singing:

‘You with your God complex, but you can’t even make life, bitch.’

Meghan samples The Chordette’s 1954 hit Mr. Sandman in Mother.

The video was choreographed and directed by Charm La’Donna. 

Mother is a track on Meghan’s fifth album Takin’ It Back, which dropped in October.

The singer, who is mom to son Riley, 2,  announced her second pregnancy in January.

What a blessing.’I’m just so grateful I can get pregnant,’ she shared. ‘And I’m like, ‘I’m crushing it. This is amazing. This is my dreams.’ I’m halfway there — I want four kids!’
