Robert Rinder fought tears on Monday morning as he returned to present Good Morning Britain

The barrister, 44, got emotional live on air as he detailed the tragic loss of his French Bulldog Rocco, who passed away suddenly last week.

And he was consoled by his co-host Susanna Reid, who offered her support and placing a caring hand on his arm.

Explaining the loss he feels, Robert shared: ‘I wasn’t necessarily a dog person, but then this beautiful snoring creature came into my life. He gave me absolute loyalty and unconditional love.

‘There’s nothing like the profound delight of arriving home and somebody being completely full of limitless joy just to see you. No human being will give you that.’

He also reached out to viewers who may have experience a similar thing, continuing: ‘It’s that connection with pets, animals in general actually, that so many people feel. 

‘And I have to say to anybody out there that has a lost a pet and it’s a real grief, I hear you.’

Susanne then turned to Robert as she sweetly said: ‘I’m glad that you’re here with us this morning’.

While the barrister agreed and told his co-host: ‘ He loved you very much’. 

The television personality announced the sad news via his respective Instagram and Twitter accounts on Friday, while sharing two sweet pictures of the pup.

Dubbing the bond ‘the deepest gift of unconditional love’, he penned in the caption: ‘My Rocco died suddenly yesterday. He blessed me with a lifetime of loyalty & limitless joy.

‘I don’t speak about my private world normally. But wanted to share my profound sadness with anybody who has ever loved a dog. It is the deepest gift of unconditional love imaginable. ‘

And Robert recieved an influx of support from many famous friends, including Amanda Holden, Ruth Langsford and Holly Willoughby.
