Selena Gomez is emotional in TikTok clip as she thanks people for happy birthday wishes after turning 30: ‘I don’t take that for granted’

Selena Gomez took to TikTok on Thursday with kind words for her fans who wished her a happy birthday as she turned 30 last week.

‘I wanted to say thank you so much to every person that wished me a happy birthday,’ the actress-singer said as she sat in a room wearing an off-white fleece jacket over a black tank top with her wavy black locks parted.

Gomez, who plays Mabel Mora on the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, continued: ‘I got to see some of your messages, I don’t read a lot of comments but the few that I read were really, really sweet and I just want you to know that I don’t take that for granted.

‘I could not be more grateful and … I’m 30!’ Gomez said. ‘I’m so far enjoying it and I just wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being in my life, for growing up with me, for putting up with me – thank you guys so much and I hope you have a wonderful evening, night day morning, wherever you are.’

The Grand Prairie, Texas native also thanked people who have contributed to her Rare Impact Fund, a charity aimed at mental health awareness and self-acceptance.

Gomez last week took to Twitter with a similar message thanking people for their birthday wishes.

‘Thank you guys so much for all the bday love!’ she said. ‘This year, my biggest wish is for donations to the Rare Impact Fund. Together we can reduce the stigma associated with mental health and increase access to resources. Love you guys so much!’

In a message she posted on the Rare Impact Fund page, Gomez described mental health as a ‘personal’ issue for her, going into detail about her awareness and ambitions to help others with her efforts.

‘Figuring out how to manage my own mental health hasn’t always been easy, but it’s something I am constantly working on and I hope I can help others work on, too,’ she said. ‘Sometimes, my highs are really high, and my lows can take me out for weeks at a time. When I found out I suffer from mental health issues, in many ways it was a relief because I could better understand what’s going on.

‘I realized that there was a way to get help, and for me, that also meant finding the right treatments. Taking care of my mental health – just like my physical health – takes work, but when I do, I am happier, I am healthier, and more in control of my emotions and thoughts.’

She said that she wished ‘more people talked about mental health’ when she was younger as she ‘could have learned and understood what was going on with [her] own health earlier on.’
