South Korean reality show Physical 100 becomes latest Netflix sensation

A new extreme sport reality show from South Korea has become the latest worldwide Netflix hit.

Physical 100 debuted on the streaming giant on January 24 and reached the no.1 spot as Netflix’s most watched show in Australia on Thursday, February 9.

The format for the show revolves around trying to find ‘the perfect physique’ as 100 ultra-fit players compete in tests of body-breaking feats of endurance.

Meanwhile, the show is ranked no.2 on Netflix U.S. and has made the top five on the streamers’ most-watched shows globally.

A trailer for the nine-part series reveals the show as a more intense version of Australian Ninja Warrior. 

The preview features one scene in which a large group of highly buffed contestants are hoisted over a steaming pool of menacing looking liquid.

Elsewhere in the trailer, a caption invites viewers to watch as contestants ‘fight to the death’.

Other scenes feature the players wrestling in mud and fighting over a medicine ball.

A synopsis reveals that the contestants are made up of a cast of South Korean sports people, and military personnel.

Also among the cast – unknown to many viewers in the West – are South Korean celebrities like wrestlers and body builders.

Meanwhile, You Tube stars, like Travel expert Tarzan and Shim Eu-ddeum, a fitness guru with 1.21 million subscribers, are also featured.

Among the show’s fans is K-Pop star Jungkook.

Allkpop reports that a live stream featuring the chart-topping hitmaker eating chicken while watching Physical 100 was watched by 10million real-time viewers.
