The Chase's Mark Labbett reveals new gig after being axed from US version of show

Mark Labbett has revealed he has landed a new job after being axed from the US version of The Chase earlier this year.

The chaser, 56, appeared on the American version of the game show from 2013 to 2015 and again from 2021 to 2022 but was cut from the line-up ahead of the third season.

Mark confirmed he was leaving the show back in March and has now announced that he is working with the Game Show Network, a cable channel in the US.

A game show Twitter account posted that ratings for series three of The Chase are down, promoting one fan to ask Mark to return.

They wrote: ‘The Chase has had an alarming downward trend for season 3. It lost 33% of its demo (0.32) and nearly 40% of its viewers (2.229M average). Hopefully the last half of season 3 does better.’

A fan then responded: ‘Bring back @MarkLabbett!’ to which Mark replied: ‘Too late, I work for GSN now :)’.

Mark did not elaborate on what show on the Game Show Network he is associated with or when he started working with them.

The TV star addressed his departure from the show earlier this year when he tweeted: ‘Gutted to not be invited back but really excited at the new lineup. I am expecting Brandon and Victoria to wow America!’

In another tweet, he added: ‘They just didn’t renew me. No reason was offered.’

Along with Shaun Wallace, Mark is the only original chaser from the UK series to have remained with the show since it first aired in 2009.

It comes after Mark admitted that he has to ‘throw off’ women at appearances due to the amount of interest they show in him.

The maths whizz, known on the ITV show as The Beast, explained that fans can get a little over familiar when they see him in real life.

Chatting to The Mirror: ‘Mark revealed that while public appearances are fun, it comes with a cost: ”I’ve done a lot of gigs up and down the country, things like bingo hall and pub quizzes and it’s great fun but I can safely say on any given gig I get my a**e felt about four times, it’s at every gig and that’s not just women.

‘I’ve had women who have pulled my face on to kiss them, they sit down on my knees and I’ve had to throw them off.

‘The worst one was I was wearing jeans and the woman grabbed my meat and two veg.’

Admitting that he does think it’s unfair, Mark shared that if the roles were reversed between him and the fans, he would be ‘in the cells’.
