The winner of the fourth season of The Masked Singer Australia was unveiled on Sunday night.

The celebrity inside the glittering Mirrorball costume was pop star Melody Thornton from the Pussycat Dolls – and for once judge Dave Hughes guessed right.

But the reveal left viewers at home scratching their heads, with many finding Dave’s newfound accuracy puzzling after he failed to offer any credible guesses throughout the entire run of the season.

‘Dave Hughes knows who Melanie Thornton is but the average Aussie doesn’t?’ wrote one disgruntled viewer on Twitter.

‘The Masked Singer is absolutely fixed. He picks Marilyn Monroe but manages to pick the winner? You lost me masked singer!’ they added.

‘Hughesy ‘guessing’ the winners identity proved how farcical it all is. He had no idea who it was. How many other correct ‘guesses’ were spoon fed to them?’ wrote another.

‘Hughsey guessing the correct winner… I call super BS,’ quipped a third.

‘There is no way Dave knew that without inside knowledge,’ wrote a fourth.

‘Look, she seems nice, and she can f***ing sing the house down. I only wish I knew who the f*** she was,’ wrote another.

Someone else chimed in, ‘Even Dave Hughes doesn’t know who he guessed’, while one more agreed: ‘Nobody knows who Melody Thornton is, least of all Dave Hughes’.

Melody, however, was pleased with the announcement.

‘I’m so happy! I kept saying, ‘You know, if you don’t get it, it’s fine,” Melody, 37, said after taking off the mask.

She went on the reveal that performing on The Masked Singer helped her in unexpected ways.

‘It brought me closer to myself, as weird as that sounds,’ she said holding back tears.

The American pop star added that the show had brought her a surprising amount of confidence.

‘I wanted to know if some of the things I was telling myself were true. Because people are voting for you, they don’t know it’s you, you know? Like, when you’re hard on yourself, maybe that’s not right.’

Earlier, Snapdragon, who came in runner up, was unmasked, with the celebrity inside the mask revealed to be The Voice star Sheldon Riley, 23.

‘It’s been a really long road for me,’ Sheldon said of his career and gaining faith in himself.

‘I mean, I’ve done the mask for ages. I was diagnosed with Asperger’s as a kid, so people always worried about me.

‘Is he gonna be able to speak? Is he gonna be able to execute himself as a normal human being? Is he gonna find love?’

‘And it was something I never wanted to blame on what was going on mentally, so I started blaming what was happening physically, for a really long time.

‘Just not loving myself for a very long time. It wasn’t until these shows that I realised that I need to be so proud of my talent’ he added.

Judge Chrissie was touched, telling the young singer:  ‘Sheldon, I very openly fell in love with you, and your enormous gift.

‘I’m so thrilled that it seems like this crazy show has really made you aware of your extraordinary gift.

‘And you are different, and that’s nothing to hide’ she concluded.

Coming in third place was Rooster, who was unveiled to be singer and performer Hugh Sheridan, 37.

Hugh admitted that he struggled inside the costume and almost quit.

‘When I first came out in this costume, I was having panic attacks’ he admitted to host Osher Gunsberg.

‘I didn’t know how claustrophobic I actually am. I didn’t think I was going to last a week, and then I crossed a line with the Rooster and I just said, ‘Take me”.

Hugh added that he went on the show because his sister and niece love it.

‘I wanted to do something fun. I wanted to do something to cheer up my family and also the whole world had a hard year last year, and the year before,’ he said.

‘So I thought this is pure entertainment and for me it has been quite the journey,’ he added.
